It's important to CWLP that all of our customers receive the greatest possible benefit for every dollar they spend on electricity and water. That's why we offer a number of rebate programs designed to help you become the smartest possible energy and water consumer. Except where noted, rebates are applied as credits to participating customers' utility bills. Contact our Energy Services Office at 217.789.2070 or e-mail nrgxprts@cwlp.com for more information or questions on any of these rebates and programs.

Air Source and Geothermal Heat Pump Rebate Read More

City Water, Light and Power (CWLP) customers looking to upgrade or install new HVAC systems should look into the benefits of heat pumps and geothermal systems. These types of systems are capable of providing both heating and cooling needs year round and provide considerable energy savings. Heat pumps act as both air conditioners and heating units for a property. These units move heat out of a property in the summer and then reverse it back inside in the winter.

Residential and commercial customers of CWLP can earn a rebate for installation of new and replacement systems. In addition, residential customers could also be eligible for a Federal Tax Credit and a 9% electric rate discount from CWLP.

  • For those meeting application eligibility and with pre-approval where required* CWLP rebates for new and replacement heat pumps will be awarded and will vary by system size, type of system and customer type. Rebates begin at $200 per ton of cooling capacity and go up to $800 per ton on the high end for commercial customers installing new and first-time geothermal installations.
  • Updated Federal Tax Credit for air source heat pumps is 30% of cost up to $2,000 for those meeting qualifications https://www.irs.gov/pub/taxpros/fs-2022-40.pdf and 30% of total cost for geothermal systems https://www.energystar.gov/about/federal_tax_credits/geothermal_heat_pumps.
  • PLUS, CWLP residential electric customers who install heat pumps as their primary heating source are eligible for our Electric Heat Rate, which provides a 9% savings over CWLP’s regular residential electric rate from September 16 through May 15. (Customers who are currently on CWLP's Electric Rates 34-37 already receive this savings.)

*Before making a purchasing decision, be sure to consult with a licensed HVAC contractor and see that a load sizing calculation is done and that a high efficiency unit is considered. Pre-approval is required for commercial customers and rebate allowance amounts will vary depending on size.

While using a heat pump means shifting costs from the gas side of your energy bill to electric, the savings can add up by reducing your overall energy use because of the unit’s efficiency year-round. Today's air source heat pump can reduce your electricity use for heating by approximately 65% compared to electric resistance heating such as furnaces and baseboard heaters. High-efficiency heat pumps also dehumidify better than standard central air conditioners, resulting in less energy usage and more cooling comfort in summer months. Geothermal heat pumps can yield a 70% to 80% reduction in energy use. Learn More: https://www.energy.gov/energysaver/heat-pump-systems.

CityLights Read More

Eligible commercial electric customers who upgrade their interior lighting equipment to qualifying LED equipment can earn a rebate and save money on their electric bill. Rebates are based on the wattage saved by the new equipment versus the old equipment or the federal minimum efficiency standards. Pre-approval is required for all projects and rebates are limited to 35% of project costs (including outside labor) and $10,000 per year.

High Efficiency Air Conditioner Rebate Read More

An air conditioner’s efficiency level is important. Switching to a system with a higher operating efficiency will save you money each time you turn it on. For example, if you now have a 20 year old 10 SEER 3 ton air conditioner that costs you $396 a year to operate, you could save almost $148 a year in operating costs by replacing it with a new 16 SEER unit.

The High Efficiency Air Conditioner Rebate is available to CWLP residential electric customers who install qualifying air conditioners in their new or existing properties.

High Efficiency Toilet Rebate Read More

CWLP water customers who replace an existing older toilet with a qualifying new high-efficiency (HE) toilet can apply for a $50 rebate from CWLP. (New construction does not qualify for the rebate.) The new toilet must bear a WaterSense® label, which indicates it will use at least 20 percent less water than the current federal standard of 1.6 gallons per flush while providing equal or superior flushing performance to standard models.

Rain Barrel Rebate Read More

CWLP has teamed up with Mother Nature to help you reduce some of your outdoor watering costs. With CWLP's Rain Barrel Rebate, CWLP water customers can earn up to $25 back on the cost of purchasing a qualifying new rain barrel that is installed on a property receiving CWLP metered water service.

A rain barrel works in conjunction with a building's gutter system to capture rain that falls on the roof and store the water for future outdoor use. You might be surprised by the amount of water a rain barrel can collect: A mere 1/10th of an inch of rain falling on 1,000 square feet of rooftop can fill a 50-gallon barrel. That's 50 free gallons you can use to water your flowers, shrubs and other outdoor plants.
