Safety starts early!
CWLP was proud to help kick off the Springfield Fire Department’s first-ever Safety City Camp, held this July in partnership with the Mayor’s Office, Springfield Police Department, Public Works, and the Illinois Department of Natural Resources.
Created to provide local children with the knowledge and confidence to stay safe in their everyday lives, Safety City is a free program for children in the Springfield area that offers interactive, hands-on experiences focused on essential safety skills.
More than 30 first- through third-grade students participated in the inaugural camp, spending the week learning about fire safety and emergency preparedness, bike and pedestrian safety, traffic and street awareness, utility and electrical safety, outdoor and environmental safety, and how and when to call 911.
Through hands-on activities and guidance from local safety professionals, participating youth had the opportunity to learn important skills they can use at home, at school, and throughout the community.
Thank you to the families, volunteers, staff, and participants who helped make the inaugural Safety City Camp a success.
Save the date: Safety City returns July 26–30, 2027! We look forward to welcoming the next group of young safety champions.
