CWLP WATER PLANT OPEN HOUSE SET

June 4, 2026

Public invited to tour plant, meet employees, learn about water quality, and have fun at next City Community Connections Event!

Springfield, Ill.—Mayor Misty Buscher invites the public to an open house at the City Water, Light and Power Water Plant for the next City Community Connections event to learn about Springfield’s water supply and purification process. CWLP customers, friends and family are encouraged to attend the open house on Monday, June 15 from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the plant located at 3100 Stevenson Drive.

On the front lawn of the water plant, guests will have the chance to meet Water Department staff, see equipment, earn giveaways, play games and more. In addition, guests can join one of three walking tours, which will be offered at 4:15 pm, 5:15 pm and 6:15 p.m. to see all water treatment processes including the pump stations, clarifiers, and filter gallery. Stations will also be set up for the public to learn about water quality and conservation, plus boating safety and the lake boat patrol.

“Our water system is one of Springfield’s most important public services, and I’m excited for residents to have the opportunity to see it up close,” said Mayor Buscher. “The dedicated employees at CWLP work around the clock to deliver safe, reliable, and affordable drinking water to our community. This event gives the public a chance to learn more about that work and the people behind it.”

The open house series is part of the City’s three-pronged Community Connections initiative, which was created to improve communication and accessibility between residents and local government through departmental open houses, connecting at the ward level, and online engagement opportunities. The City encourages residents of all ages to attend and take advantage of this opportunity to engage directly with their local government and learn more about the services provided throughout the community.
