CWLP CREWS RESPONDING TO POWER OUTAGES

April 27, 2026

City Water Light and Power crews are responding to power outages affecting over 1,500 customers in a few areas around the city due to storm activity including lighting strikes and wind causing tree trouble. Outage areas currently include:
• Over 1,000 in an area from Veterans Parkway to MacArthur Boulevard from along W. Iles Avenue to Huntleigh Road and Outer Park Drive on the north approximately
• Over 400 from E. Cook Street to E. Laurel Street approximately between S. Pope Avenue and Eastdale Drive
• Another 7 smaller pockets of outages including around Centennial Park, Pasfield Golf Course, Hilltop Road and Westwood Terrace,

Crews will work to restore power to all remaining customers impacted as quickly and safely as possible.

FOLLOW STATUS: Customers can view and track their electric service status from the outage map using their street address number and phone number on file with CWLP. It is available from the Outage Center link at CWLP.com at https://outagemap.cwlp.com/. More information and updates on outage status will be posted as available on the CWLP Facebook and X (Twitter) pages, www.facebook.com/4CWLP, www.twitter.com/CWLP_.

DRIVE NOTE: Traffic lights could be affected so drivers may want to avoid the area and remember to treat intersections with flashing light as a stop sign.

Tips During a Power Outage:
All tips here https://cwlp.com/BlogDetails.aspx/Being_Prepared_For_Storms_Power_Outages
• Use CWLP’s Outage Map, https://outagemap.cwlp.com/, to track status and use the ‘Check My Outage Status’ feature. You can input the phone number associated with your account and street number. Verify the outage and confirm whether a crew is assigned or whether an outage restoration estimate is available.
• Call CWLP Dispatch at 217-789-2121 for unreported power outages or to report electric system damage locations such as wires down, broken poles, or damaged transformers. During very widespread outages, Electric Dispatch may have high call volume. You might have difficulty getting your call answered quickly by either a live dispatcher or the automated system. If this should happen to you, please leave a message on the voicemail prompt. We are doing our very best to respond to all calls, and we need to hear from you.
• Use the Check My Outage Status feature at https://outagemap.cwlp.com/. Input the phone number associated with the account and the street number of your service address. You can verify that Dispatch is aware of your outage.

Power Line Safety:
• If you see downed power lines or other damaged electrical equipment, notify CWLP Dispatch at 217-789-2121 or call 911 as soon as possible because the lines could still be live.
• Just because power lines are damaged does not mean they are dead. Stay away, and instruct others to do the same. Power lines do not have to be arcing or sparking to be live and dangerous. Any dead power line could become energized at any time during power restoration work or when backup generators come online.
• If you are driving and come across a downed power line, stay away and warn others to stay away. Contact emergency personnel or your utility company to address the downed power line.
• If power lines should fall on your vehicle while you are driving, do not attempt to drive away or get out. Call for help but don't allow others to approach your vehicle as power lines could be live. Stay inside until utility crews say it is safe to get out. The only exception would be if fire or other danger, like the smell of gasoline, is present. In that case, the proper action is to jump—not step—with both feet hitting the ground at the same time. Jump clear. Do not allow any part of your body to touch the vehicle and ground at the same time. Hop to safety, keeping both feet together as you leave the area.
