Applications Now Open For Electrical Apprenticeships

May 18, 2025

Applications are now open to those wanting to start a career as an Electrical Apprentice at City of Springfield’s City Water, Light and Power (CWLP). This apprenticeship includes on-the-job training and coursework to provide knowledge and technical information related to the various positions being offered. Through June 22 applications are being accepted for:

• New! Traffic & Metering Technician Apprentice 1st Year
• Lineman Apprentice
• Relay Technician Apprentice Electrician 1st Year
• Substation Electrician Apprentice

In order to apply for these apprenticeships, you must have a National Joint Apprenticeship Training Committee (NJATC) qualifying exam score. If you have taken the NJATC exam within the past 24 months from the final date to apply and have proof of 6 or higher, then you will not need to test again. Additionally, any current apprentice and/or journeyman level electrician who is in or has completed an accredited apprenticeship, which required a score of 6 or better on the Electrical Training Alliance test for entrance into said program, and can provide supporting documentation, does not have to take this test to be eligible to submit an application.
