Renewable Choice Program Lets CWLP Electric Customers Go
Green
CWLP's new Renewable Choice Program offers electric
customers a way to neutralize the environmental impact of their energy usage
by purchasing Renewable Energy Credits (RECs) for as little as $2 extra per
month on their CWLP electric bill. A REC is a certificate issued by a
"green" energy producer that guarantees the producer has generated one
megawatt-hour (MWH) of electricity per REC using only eligible renewable
energy sources (such as wind, solar and biomass).
Through Renewable Choice, CWLP makes it possible for
electric customers to purchase RECs in 200-kWh blocks. One MWH equals 1,000
kilowatt-hours (kWh), so each block represents one-fifth of a REC and
approximately one-fifth to one-quarter of the average CWLP's monthly
electricity usage. Participants in the Renewable Choice Program can purchase
as many or as few 200-kWh blocks as they wish. Each block costs $2.
Customers can make a commitment to purchase a set number of blocks per
month, in which case the price of those blocks would be added to their
monthly CWLP bills. Or they can make one-time purchases for themselves or
other CWLP customers. In that case, the total cost of the blocks would be
paid for at the time of purchase.
More information about the
Renewable
Choice Program is available elsewhere on this website.
