Security Office Warns People to Keep Off the Ice at Lake Springfield

CWLP's Security Office is issuing a warning to ice skaters, snowmobilers and others thinking of venturing onto the ice on Lake Springfield: Don't! Due to varying temperatures common during a typical Springfield winter and the fact that hot water from the Dallman Power Station discharges into the lake, the depth and strength of ice in the lake is frequently unsuitable to support the weight of people or their sporting equipment. As a result, an enjoyable outing could quickly turn tragic.

City Code allows lake residents and their guests to go on the ice near their property shorelines in designated areas, but they do so at their own risk. For the public at-large, skating and other ice-related recreational activities on the lake are prohibited unless otherwise designated by the CWLP General Manager.
