The City of Springfield has
been awarded an Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant (EECBG) of
$1,225,600 by the U.S. Department of Energy to bolster CWLP's
energy efficiency programs. The grant money, part of the federal
government's American Recovery and Reinvestment Act economic stimulus program,
will allow the utility to reinstate two previous efficiency rebate
programs—one focusing on the installation of high-efficiency air conditioners and the other
on commercial lighting retrofits—as well as to introduce a building commissioning program for existing commercial facilities. All
three programs will be managed by CWLP's
Energy Services Office and will
be designed to help customers save money by improving the energy
efficiency of their homes and work spaces.
The Department of Energy's
EECBG program is providing a total of $2.7 billion to state, local,
territorial and tribal governments across the nation to fund programs
and services that enhance energy efficiency.
