| Yes. You could use either a standard (one-way) or
a three-way CFL. Each would provide a different effect. The
standard CFL works in a three-way lamp exactly the same way a
one-way incandescent does—the light remains off for three of every
four clicks of the lamp's switch and you get only one level of
light.
Just like a three-way incandescent, a three-way CFL would
provide you with three different light levels that would be
equivalent to the light output of a 50/100/150-watt incandescent.
