CWLP strives to help customers get the greatest value for every dollar they spend on water service. Toward this end, the utility works to educate customers on the value of water efficiency and sponsors programs aimed at helping them improve their own water efficiency without requiring them to sacrifice comfort and convenience.  Key among these programs are a water-saver kit giveaway, a potential-leak detection audit and a lawn-watering educational program. These water conservation programs are administered by CWLP's Energy Services Office (ESO).

CWLP's Water Saver Kit or any of its individual components is available free of charge upon request to any residential retail water customer. The kit contains a low-flow showerhead(s), low-flow kitchen and bathroom faucet aerators, toilet dam(s), and toilet bowl fill diverter(s). These devices are intended for use on older (8 to 10 year-old) faucets and showers that are not already equipped with water-saving devices and in older-style toilets that are not already classified as low-flush.

For customers with newer showerheads, CWLP also offers a "lather valve," which allows the user to interrupt the flow of water from the showerhead while lathering.  This temporary interruption can reduce shower-related water usage by 30% or more.  When the flow is resumed, the user does not need to reset the water temperature.  The valve, which contains a push button on/off switch, is identical to the one that is built into the low-flow showerhead offered as part of CWLP's Water Saver Kit.  It installs easily between the showerhead and showerarm.

For customers who do most of their dishwashing by hand, CWLP also offers a special kitchen aerator equipped with a flip-up on-off valve.  The valve makes it easy for the user to cut off water flow - without affecting water temperature - while sudsing the dishes and to turn it back on for rinsing.  In a test conducted by the ESO Water Expert, use of this device resulted in a 2 1/2-gallon water savings, compared to when the same dishes were washed while the water flowed freely.

Another feature of the Water Saver Kit is a packet of dye tablets that can help customers identify some types of toilet tank leaks.  These leak detection tablets are intended for use by all CWLP water customers, regardless of the age of their toilets.
