Arbor Day Each April, CWLP partners with a local school for the utility's Planting
the Tree of Knowledge: Arbor Day In the Schools Celebration.
Teaming with the Mayor's Office, the Springfield Department of Public Works
and Nelson Tree Service, the utility works with the schools to help teachers
build the study of trees into their curricula. CWLP donates a tree(s) to be
planted on the grounds of its school partner. Nelson Tree Service provides
financial assistance that allows the utility to sponsor student art or
writing contests, science-related field trips for students, or other
activities or events of the schools choice. The utility
and its school partner hold a special assembly and tree planting ceremony on
the last Friday in April (Arbor Day). Past partners in the utility’s Arbor Day celebration have been Hazel Dell Elementary, Iles Elementary, Vachel Lindsay Elementary, Lincoln Magnet Middle School, Carl Sandburg Elementary, Lee Elementary, Wilcox Elementary, Ridgely Elementary, Enos Elementary, Southern View Elementary, and Black Hawk Elementary. If your school would like to be considered as a CWLP Arbor Day partner, email publicinformation@cwlp.com, or call 789-2116, ext. 2627.
